How to Get your Business on Facebook

Creating a Facebook Business Page is easy to do.

If you already have a personal account, you will be asked to connect the business page with the personal account. This is not a privacy problem IF you have your privacy settings for your personal account configured tightly (a Hub on Facebook Privacy, coming soon.) Also, Facebook is configured so that any actions you make as the administrator of a business page will show the pages name as the actor and not your personal name. If you don't have a personal account, you have the option of setting up a business only account. However, it is a violation of Facebook's Terms of Use. So if you decide to have a business only account be sure you don't plan to create or use another account for personal reasons. Reference: http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=12840

Be aware of Facebook's Terms of Use regarding business pages to stay out of trouble: http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=721

To get started, go to Create a Page on Facebook and choose the type of page you want to create.

Make a Facebook Business Page

For this Hub, we'll focus on a Business Page, so after clicking that link you choose the Category of your Company and Add the Business Name. You will then be brought to Get Started Page.

On the Get Started Page you will have all the options you need to get your business page up and running.

  • Add an image/logo
  • Invite Friends to "Like" your page
  • Post your first Status Updates
  • Create a Like Box for your Website
  • Set up your mobile phone so you can make status posts "on the go."

How to Use Your Facebook Business Page

Now that you have your business page, the next step is to begin increasing the number of people who "Like" your page and adding content that is relevant to those people. As a rule, you don't want to be "selling" your business too often, about 1/4 of the time would be acceptable. You want to be able to provide information that is useful and relevant to the people who like your page.

For an example, Anticipation Villa (a new Facebook page) is beginning to provide information not only about the Villa itself (photos, videos, special offers) but also is linking to local weather, area golf courses, restaurant reviews, local happenings and attractions -- all things that are useful and relevant to Anticipation Villa's audience.

More instruction on how to find and link your Facebook and Twitter page to relevant information on the internet will be included in future Hubs.
